CEAGESP Fish

The Companhia de Entrepostos e Armazéns Gerais de São Paulo (CEAGESP) has the second largest wholesale fish fair in Latin America, known popularly as Pescado CEAGESP, which takes place at CEAGESP São Paulo.

The management of the Pátio do Pescado, which has 27 thousand m², is in charge of Frigorífico de São Paulo (FRISP). On average, 200 tons of fish of 97 species are traded daily – saltwater fish represent 90%. As it is a wholesale fair, it is only possible to make purchases in large quantities, but for the end consumer not to lose out, there is the Peixaria Millennium inside CEAGESP, see below.

Sardines, hake, croaker and tilapia are among the most wanted. Imports account for around 6% of the volume sold, with emphasis on salmon, from Chile.

Pátio do Pescado has 81 licensees and the main suppliers are from the states of Rio de Janeiro, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul and São Paulo. Founded in 1969, around 800 people work there, including licensees, employees and self-employed porters.

The period of greatest movement in the sector is Holy Week, when the volume sold practically triples. It is precisely on the days before Easter that the Santa Feira do Peixe takes place annually. On that occasion, final consumers have the opportunity to buy, at different times, fish that are sold wholesale.

Peixaria CEAGESP – Millennium

For those who visit the warehouse and are looking for varieties of fish, but are unable to participate in the traditional fish fair that takes place in the early hours of Tuesday to Saturday, there is an alternative so that they do not leave empty-handed.

At the entrance of gate 14 is the fish shop MILLENNIUM, which has been selling its products for 14 years at CEAGESP. The fishmonger has products coming from suppliers of the warehouse, all are properly sanitized and prepared for consumption.

Among the varieties, the most commercialized are croaker, hake, sardines and salmon. In addition to fish, MILLENNIUM has some types of seasonings to guarantee the taste of your fish. Mussels, octopus, crab, squid and crayfish are among the different types found at the fishmonger’s.

Santa Feira do Peixe

The event, which is organized by the licensees with the support of Companhia de Entrepostos e Armazéns Gerais de São Paulo (CEAGESP), aims to encourage the consumption of fish and promote special retail sales with exclusive promotions.

Among the highlights are the mullet and the hake fillet, which from 2017 onwards can be purchased wholesale at special prices. In retail, the highlight is the dogfish at R$ 13.99 per kg. In 2016, traders sold around 80 tons of fish during the three days of the event.

In addition to the wide variety of fresh fish, shrimp, vegetables and seasonings in general will also be sold. And the consumer will also find products for Easter and several typical dishes in the Food Court.

The initiative, traditionally held on the eve of Holy Week, is a great option for preparing Easter dinner. The event also has a vegetable stall to accompany the preparation of fish, a seasoning and also typical Easter products.

The food court has acarajé stalls, Japanese food, paella, French crepe, soups, meat skewers, codfish balls, fish pizza, ice cream, fish baits, drinks and a specific menu with the products on sale.

The wholesalers show the fish offers that can be found daily at the warehouse at the fish fair, which takes place from Tuesday to Saturday, from 2 am to 6 am, in the same space where Santa Feira will take place. Santa Feira do Peixe works both for wholesale and retail, it is an opportunity for the final consumer to take advantage of CEAGESP’s great prices.
