CEAGESP Flowers

A registered trademark of the Companhia de Entrepostos e Armazéns Gerais de São Paulo (CEAGESP), the Flower Fair at CEAGESP São Paulo is the largest of its kind in the country.

Held at the Mercado Livre do Produtor (MLP) Pavilion, CEAGESP Flores brings together around a thousand producers of flowers, plants, grass and seedlings. It also has a special area reserved for accessories and handicrafts.

Weekly, between 800 and 1 thousand tons of flowers and plants are sold. On each of the days it is held, an average of 5,000 to 8,000 people circulate.

The week before Mother’s Day is the busiest period, which is also in high demand because May is the month for brides. Other important dates are Valentine’s Day, All Souls’ Day and the end of the year parties.

The flower that has the highest output on Mother’s Day is the rose, which moves 20% of the sector. The red rose accounts for more than 80% of sales. In the weeks prior to this celebration, sales increase – an average of 2,000 tons of plants is reached.

In addition to this traditional initiative, CEAGESP São Paulo also has another Flower Fair, which takes place on different days, at Praça da Batata.

CEAGESP Flower Fair

In addition to flowers, foliage, plants, there is a section dedicated to vases, packaging and more. The prices are very attractive: there is a bouquet of roses for 20 reais (with twenty units), golden rain orchid for 20 reais and herbs and spices seedlings for 1 reais each.

As the target audience of the event are stores and event companies, among other businesses, no one is there for a walk. The hallways are full of people and people rush past, bumping into each other with branches and carts. So watch out!

To guarantee the pinkest rose (or red, white, piebald…), repeat customers arrive even before the event’s start time. The unsuspecting who start to walk through the shed punctually can find many of the plants reserved.

Another disadvantage of arriving “late”: the parking lot number 4, closest to the Mercado Livre do Produtor (MLP) Pavilion, where the markets take place on Tuesdays and Fridays, fills up quickly. Even before the scheduled time to start the event, this space is usually packed. The “laggards” must then enter through gate 7, a little further away from the hubbub.

Many exhibitors do not accept debit or credit cards. In order not to forget to take a beautiful and cheap flower home, it is worth going to the ATM first and withdrawing some money.

Even if you swear on your feet that you won’t buy much, chances are you’ll bite your tongue before the tour is over. Either way, take strong, reusable bags to accommodate your purchases neatly and not hurt your arm with plastic bags.
